John Bliss & Co., New York, marine chronometer, fusee movement with spring detent escapement and Bliss & Creightons patented "H" balance, blued steel helical hairspring, balance with diamond endstone, top plate and balance cock with diamond damascene pattern, Roman numeral silvered dial with wind indicator, signed "John Bliss & Co., New York No. 2760", gold spade and poker hands, blued steel seconds hand, contained in a gimbaled brass bowl with glazed screw bezel, all in a polished mahogany box with brass campaign hardware, c1895
CONDITION:
Box with marks and scratches, top missing, nameplate on box front missing, brass hardware, gimbals and bowl in old lacquer with minor spotting and verdigris, bezel good, glass with minor scratches, dial good with minor marks and scratches, hands very good, some shellac losses in numerals and signature, damascene pattern with some areas of loss, minor losses to blue and scattered spots of oxide on steel, movement oily and dirty, but running well, should be cleaned in order to prevent wear, no key. John Bliss & Co were in business from 1891--98
